Liverpool close in on £40million Jack Butland

Liverpool are confident of sealing a record-breaking £40million deal for Stoke keeper Jack Butland.

The 24-year-old has impressed at the Potters and could well be England’s No.1 at this summer’s World Cup finals.

Arsenal are also interested in Butland but it is believed the player would favour a switch to Anfield and the prospect of working with Jurgen Klopp.

Stoke are resigned to losing their star man but are demanding a fee which will eclipse the current world record outlay for a goalkeeper, the £34.7m which brought Ederson to Manchester City from Benfica.

It will also place neighbours Everton’s £30m capture of Jordan Pickford from Sunderland in the shade.

Karius will remain at Anfield as back up to Butland while Simon Mignolet will be sold.

Butland who faces Manchester City tomorrow night at the Bet365 Stadium will in the summer swap a relegation scrap for a hunt for trophies.
